How to score high on IELTS
A structured mix of format familiarity, timed practice and speaking rehearsal is what moves your band.
Train your ear daily
Listen to podcasts, news and lectures in English; practise note-taking at natural speed.
Practise under timing
Reading is a race — do timed passages so you never run out of time on test day.
Master the two task types
Learn Task 1 report structures and Task 2 essay templates; aim for clear, linked paragraphs.
Rehearse speaking aloud
Record yourself on cue-card topics; focus on fluency and range, not memorised answers.
Build academic vocabulary
Group words by topic and use them actively in writing and speaking.
Take full mock tests
Simulate the full test regularly to build stamina and pacing.
△ Common mistakes to avoid
- Memorising Speaking answers — examiners spot it instantly
- Ignoring the word count in Writing (under-length is penalised)
- Not reading the question carefully in Listening
- Leaving no time to transfer/review answers
- Using overly complex words incorrectly
- Skipping full-length timed mocks
