Why Italy is a top value destination for Indian students
Italy pairs low income-based tuition (€900–€4,000/yr) and DSU scholarships that cover tuition, housing and meals with world-leading programmes in design, fashion, architecture, engineering and business — plus English-taught degrees, low living costs and a 12-month post-study stay in the heart of Europe.
Where world-class design meets low cost
Italy offers elite creative and technical education at a fraction of UK/US prices — here's an honest look at the upside and the trade-offs.
Low income-based tuition
Public tuition is set by family income (ISEE) — often €900–€4,000/year, and much less or free for lower incomes.
DSU covers everything
Regional right-to-study scholarships can waive tuition and add a stipend plus free housing and canteen meals.
Design & fashion capital
Home to Politecnico di Milano, Ferrari, Armani and Gucci — the global centre for design, fashion and automotive.
English-taught degrees
Hundreds of Bachelor's and Master's taught fully in English — no Italian required to start.
Heritage & culture
Study where the university was invented (Bologna, 1088), surrounded by art, history and la dolce vita.
Gateway to Europe
Schengen access, a 12-month stay-back, and a route to EU long-term residence after graduation.

At a public university, tuition is income-based (ISEE) — roughly €900–€4,000/year, and often near-zero for lower incomes. Private universities like Bocconi charge €10,000–€25,000/year. A DSU scholarship can waive tuition entirely and add a living stipend.

The Italy Student Visa, made simple
The National (Type D) visa, Universitaly pre-enrolment, CIMEA and documents — done right the first time.

After arrival you get a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) within 8 days.

- CIMEA statement (or Declaration of Value)

Stay 12 months to find work — then settle in the EU
Italy lets you convert your student permit into a job search, then work, then long-term EU residence.
After graduating you can switch to a 12-month post-study permit (attesa occupazione) to look for work or start a business. Once employed, you move to a work permit, and after five years of legal residence you can apply for EU long-term residence (PR).
